computers.SymantecNetworkAccessControlcan
updatethecomputerswiththelatestantivirus
definitions(remediation),andthenpermitthe
computerstoaccessthenetwork.

SymantecNetworkAccessControlletsyoucontrol
thisprotectionwithHostIntegritypolicies.You
createHostIntegritypolicieswithSymantec
EndpointProtectionManagerConsole,andthenapply
thepoliciestogroupsofclientcomputers.Ifyou
installSymantecNetworkAccessControlclient
softwareonly,youcanrequirethatclient
computersrunantivirus,antispyware,andfirewall
software.Youcanalsorequirethattheyrunthe
latestoperatingsystemservicepacksandpatches,
andcreatecustomapplicationrequirements.If
clientcomputersdonotcomply,youcanrun
commandsonthoseclientcomputerstotryand
updatethosecomputers.

IfyouintegrateSymantecNetworkAccessControl
withSymantecEndpointProtection,youcanapplya
firewallpolicytotheclientsthatdonotcomply
withHostIntegritypolicies.Thispolicycan
restricttheportsthattheclientscanusefor
networkaccess,andcanlimittheIPaddressesthat
theclientscanaccess.Forexample,youcan
restrictnon-compliantcomputercommunicationsto
onlythecomputersthatcontainthesoftwareand
updatesthatarerequired.Thisintegrationis
calledself-enforcement.

IfyouintegrateSymantecNetworkAccessControl
withSymantecEnforcer,anoptionalhardware
device,youcanfurtherrestrictnon-compliant
computersfromgainingaccesstoyournetwork.You
canrestrictnon-compliantcomputerstospecific
networksegmentsforremediation,andyoucan
completelyprohibitaccesstonon-compliant
computers.Forexample,withSymantecGateway
Enforcer,youcancontrolexternalcomputeraccess
toyournetworkthroughVPNs.WithSymantecDHCP
andLANEnforcers,youcancontrolinternal
computeraccesstoyournetworkbyassigningthe
non-routableIPaddressestonon-compliant
computers.Youcanalsoassignnon-compliant
computerstoquarantinedLANsegments.
